How much heat a home needs, and so what a heat pump costs to run, depends mostly on its size and type. These are typical figures for every UK home, from a 1 bed flat at about £336/yr up to a 5+ bed detached house at about £1,790/yr, on an air source heat pump (SCOP 3.5) at the national Ofgem price cap. How these figures are worked out

Each figure is the typical cost to run an air source heat pump (SCOP 3.5) for a year on a standard price-cap electricity tariff, for a home with good insulation. Heat pump cost = yearly heat demand ÷ SCOP × the electricity unit price. A dedicated heat pump tariff, or removing the gas standing charge when you drop the gas supply, lowers it further; each home page shows both. Full model and sources: methodology.
